Crafting stories from ideas, words and images: is there a better way to make a living?
Not for me, because it’s what I’ve done for my whole professional life and a pretty good chunk of my personal life. Nature has programmed us humans to react to stories on every level from logical to emotional. I’m lucky that it also programmed me with a pretty good faculty for creating them and a primal desire to put that faculty to use.
I’ve done it in journalism and public relations, writing about everything from technology to religion. I’ve made stories out of funky denim suits peddled in the classified pages of an alternative newspaper and computer software that got the Apollo missions to the moon.
I know how to use words to create images for the reader, whether it’s on a printed page, a video script, a podcast or a website. I know how
Most important, I know when to get out of the way and let the story tell itself.
